This is a series I did a few years ago in conjunction with the poetry reading What Happened on the Denton Road. The paintings are girls mostly between the ages of fifteen and seventeen. They are small, the size of your iPhone - 5” x 5”, 6” x 6”. They are all acrylic on wood panels, done in a limited palette of burnt sienna, raw sienna, Prussian blue, titanium white and Naples yellow. Occasionally I snuck another color in, but rarely. The proceeds from sales of these painting go to organizations which help missing children and children in the foster care system.
She will make a thousand decisions in her lifetime, ten thousand. Right now, she is making none.
It is possible she made a wrong decision. It is more possible that somebody else’s decision about her has done damage. Private, keep out.

Is she safe? I don’t know. Is she watching the night? Is she being watched? Private. Keep Out.
They venture out into the unknown. Hesitant. Determined.
Or sit, willing to wait. Watching for the future.
Endlessly texting. Forgetting to pay attention.
Everything in front of them…
May the longtime sun shine upon them… all love surround them…
And the clear light within them guide their way on.
