GUNS AND DRUMS

"And it's guns and drums and drums and guns and Johnny, we hardly knew ye..."

A collection of poems I do as readings.  There is no unifying story, rather we hear voices: the voice of a WWI soldier in the process of dying; the voices of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan; the voice of a military wife; voices reflecting on Vietnam; the voice of the poet who draws strength from Anne Frank. There were drawings done for many of these poems.   Poems, drawings and recordings will come and go from this page.  The drawing above is from a photograph by Richard Balagur, with his permission.

From The Silence of Snow

It's amazing what snow can do
how the fields of Treblinka
and Bergen-Belsen can disappear
under the silent whiteness as if
nobody ever screamed there
