What Happened on the Denton Road

Eleven poems. One story. The first reading was at 49 West Coffeehouse, Annapolis, May, 2015.

From the fourth poem, The Denton Road

Fact is, the whole long road

whatever you want to call it

went on for miles and miles and miles

Fact is, the Denton Road was

     swallowing up young girls

like it was some kind of monster

    and the sad and sorrowful

    part of all that

    was nobody

    for a long time

    even noticed.

The above paintings are small, 5” x 5”, 6” x 6” Acrylic on wood. I keep feeling we need to pay attention to our girls, all our girls. That’s what What Happened on the Denton Road is about. Girls go missing all the time.
